Adrienne, 34, was very much aware that her relationship with her husband was deteriorating. There was increasing conflict in the relation. Let us read on what she has to say: “My husband, Gavin, and I often used to have angry, loud arguments. This was mainly because I often used to found him doing no household work. I was working from home as a freelance content writer, bringing up my 3-year old daughter, doing most of the household work. But my husband Gavin spent his evenings watching TV doing no housework.

The last time I burst out in anger was when I had ordered some grocery products online one evening. The online store delivered them on time. I was busy with the computer and so asked Gavin to unpack the bags. 3 hours later, I walked into the living room just to find him sitting there without the bags being unpacked. I got furious. I decided then and there that it was not possible for me to continue the relationship any more. I wanted to end the marriage. However, Gavin didn't want to separate.

I said that I would only stay together if he agrees to discuss our problems with a professional relationships counseller. Gavin agreed to it. Although this is surprising because men are quite reluctant about taking professional help when it comes to couples therapy but Gavin agreed to it and he had no problem calling in a third party for advice.

I knew about Jade Couquaux, the lady who offers relationship counselling in BondiJunction, NSW. I called her for an appointment. She was bit businesslike over the phone. It was a very short conversation we had. The meeting was fixed a few days later.

We met Jade for first time at her office. It was a simple room but well furnished. She asked us to sit and asked both of us to describe why we actually felt that we needed her help and what was it that we wanted to achieve. Both of us had the same answer-we both wanted to deal with our anger & arguments in a better way.

During the counselling sessions, both of us got the opportunity to talk about our concerns and grievances. Jade being a neutral person kept our discussions calm and civilised. She wasn't judgemental at all. Both of us talked about our feelings without getting angry or shouting. None of us felt inhibited discussing about our relationship problems to a stranger. This is because both of us trusted her and felt that we were in safe hands.

Jade never gave advice or took sides. She mostly used to sit back listening as we both conversed. We had about six sessions and we really felt that her assistance helped us. We decided to give our marriage a second chance and decided staying together. We agreed to respect one another and work as a team. The counselling sessions helped to renew our feelings for one another.

I would definitely recommend Jade's relationship counselling services to any couple who is facing crisis in Bondi Junction.”

Most of us occasionally experience downswings in mood or “blues” which are usually reactions to the struggles, obstacles and failures in life. We often tend to cite these feelings as depression. But depression is more than just temporary unhappiness or going through a rough state of mind. Depression can be best defined as a state of moderate or severe mood disorder, and is accompanied by unceasing spells of sadness and loss of interest in daily activities.

Common Reasons for Depression

The causes of depression are vast and quite difficult to enumerate. Individuals suffering from neglect, abuse, deprivation, etc at an early age experience depression later in the course of life. A number of medical illnesses like heart disease, stroke, cancer, HIV/AIDS, diabetes and Parkinson's disease can also trigger depression in the patients. Some of the common reasons for depression include loneliness, postpartum anxiety, menopause, unemployment, problems at workplace, social rejections, bullying, death of or separation from a loved one, relationship troubles and drug abuse. Pessimistic people with lack of confidence are bound to suffer from depression.

Some Typical Symptoms

Although depression varies individually, there are some typical symptoms which help to determine whether a person is a victim of depression or not. Hoewever, these symptoms can often be mistaken as signs of normal blues usually experienced by everyone, unless they are stronger and considerably frequent.

  •  Irregular sleeping patterns, either insomnia, or hypersomnia.
  •  Loss of appetite or overeating leading to loss or gain of weight.
  •  Lack of concentration or inability to focus in daily activities or hobbies.
  •  Frivolous behaviour.
  •  Anxiety, irritability, bleak attitude, and hopelessness.
  •  Severe self-criticism and feelings of worthlessness.
  •  Suicidal thoughts and attempts.
  •  Difficulty in doing simpler tasks due to extreme physical weariness.
  •  Sudden fits of anger and agitation.
  •  Inexplicable body aches and digestive problems.

Psychiatric Counselling as a Solution to Depression

One of the most popular methods of treating depression is psychiatric counselling or psychological “pep” talks. Sometimes people suffering from depression just feel the need to discuss their problems frankly with someone who will help them to find solutions. Psychologists and psychiatric counsellors aim at treating depressed individuals by allowing them to thoroughly express the difficulties and troubles that they are facing in life, and pinpointing the major causes. They can help the patients to form an optimistic view of life and future, so as to reduce feelings of hopelessness and helpnessness. Sufferers may also be able to interact better with people around them after counselling sessions.

If you are in Bondi Junction, NSW, and suffering from depression, take help of Jade Couquax, a professional yet a very friendly psychologist in Bondi.

Food is the most convenient thing that people choose to opt for when they are overwhelmed, stressed, tired or depressed. It is even what we feel guilty about when we overindulge and find pounds piling on quickly than we can take them off.

Over-eating

Sometimes you may tell yourself, “Just because I am already depressed regarding gaining weight, I am just going to let it go for some time.” And thus what you do is eat more, ignoring the proof that those extra calories aren't doing your waist line any kind of good.

However, at a point the internal task master may kick in for you and so you may jump on tread mill, see the workout videos and may even visit the gymnasium where you exercise like a mad person just to make up for the overeating for a few days or months.

Meals skipping

Sometimes, you may also end up slipping your meals (especially the breakfast) to cut back as much as possible for overcoming the guilt, which comes as a consequence of your lack of control over the food. Thus, the result is you eat very little and you invest money buying those sugar-free foods or diet cokes, which actually make you gain weight.

Problem eating

Over time, you start seeing a pattern as pendulum swings back and forth, right from overeating to endeavours to severely cut back calories. At the end, the result is you happen to be more depressed and feel like you can never win.

Whether you are suffering from anorexia nervosa, orthorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, purging pica, binge eating disorder or a simpler form of weight/eating struggle, it is always a battle and some point you'll admit that the battle actually controls you. Only then we can face the powerless over the issue and get the support and help that we need.

Looking for more control?

When any part of the above-mentioned cycle fits your experience, you should know that the problem you are facing is quite complicated than you think and that it is not possible for you to handle it on your own. This is where the role of a counsellor in Bondi Junction, NSW comes in.

By carefully understanding your relation to your body image, food, how you function emotionally and how you deal with stress, the counsellors can assist you to get to the root of why you are not getting results that you are looking for. Getting a professional help from a counsellor can in fact stop the unending cycle of what is known as self-defeat.

The counsellor may help in the following ways:

  • Develop an effective strategy to reduce your weight and control weight gain
  • Gain more self-confidence and self-worth
  • Get to the problem's root and motivate you to become the best with the effective strategy
  • make you learn how to stop guilt cycle, which contributes to self-defeat
  • Give you all the skills that you need for living a life where you would be in control

Your car may be one of the most valuable items that you have. You would thus definitely want to take care of it. If you are an owner of a car, here are a few tips for you on extending your car's life.

  • Always make sure to read the manual that you get with your car after purchase and schedule a maintenance accordingly with an automotive service centre in South Headland. Recommended car maintenance schedule may help you avoid costly car problems that are related your cooling system, suspension, drive train and other parts.
  • Try to avoid short trips. Drive your car at least every week because if the car sits for long, other problems may arise like fluids gradually draining out of the system and so on.
  • Change oil regularly. It is going to improve the gas mileage & protect the engine. To know when to change the oil, go through the car's manual. Also change oil filter. There is even no use in pouring clean oil using a dirty filter.
  • Check the level of your oil, antifreeze, power steering fluid, transmission fluid and brake fluid quite regularly. You must also check the colour of some fluids. Never mix various types of antifreeze. If you do not know the colour of antifreeze the car has, purchase a universal brand.
  • Have a close look at the thickness of your brake pad and do not let pads wear down to the metal. This is going to damage the brake rotors and the calipers. Calipers and rotors are a lot more costlier than the pads. You cannot even clean the brake pad when its still on the car. Friction between rotor and pad can eliminate any kind of outside substance immediately.
  • Keep your car's tires inflated. Under-inflated tires may reduce the life of the tire by fifteen percent and can decease the gas mileage slightly, say by ten percent.
  • Changing the position of the tire is important. It lessens uneven wear & tear on tread extending tires life. Change the position of the tire twice each year or at least every six thousand miles.
  • Wash your car regularly. Sludge, road salt and pollution can damage the body. You may start noticing rust on bottom of the doors within a few years. There can even be other rust-related problems with your car if you do not wash it.
